Is Your Dog's Poop Normal?

Dog poop is probably something you don't think about too often, most of us grab it, bag in and bin it (I hope!).

However, keeping one eye on your dog's poop can be helpful to assess their gut health and digestion health.

A pups poop can tell you a lot about their health, if you know how to read it.

Just like us, all dogs are different - we love celebrating difference. Their bowel movements are different too. But, it’s important to get to know your dogs movements and understand what is normal for them.

Luckily, we have created a poop chart, to help you make sense of whats just left for you on the floor!

Dog Poop Chart

Consistency & Shape

A typical perfect poop is log shaped, smooth, squishy to the touch but maintain its structure when moved/ picked up.

Size

No one size fits all, this will depend on the breed. However the thing to look out for is any changes in size.

Bigger than usual poops can suggest food isn't being digested properly, and they are not getting all the nutrients out of their food. Poops becoming smaller is often a sign of loss of appetitie, which could suggest they need digestive support.

In both cases, if there is a draastic change that persists for more than a couple of days, consult your local vet!

How Often

Again, this will vary by dog, however the number of times they do their business each day should stay pretty constant.

As long as it's a similar number of times each day, there is usually nothing to worry about.

If there is ever a noticeable change in how often they are going, this could suggest they have some digestion problems and you should consult with a vet.

How to improve your dog’s poops

Dog's poop is influenced largely by their diet, poop in and poop out. If your dog needs extra support then you should look to supplement their diet with Prebiotics & Probtiotics. Probiotics are often the key to a perfect poop. They play an essential role in doggy digestion, helping keep a balanced gut flora and keeping your dog heatlhy.
